Leave Off Wishful Thinking!

Start taking accountability for your choices in life! Become a better Muslim and stop afflicting yourselves with imaginative scenarios and wishful-thinking:

Indeed, Allāh will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves.

Ar-Ra’d: 11

If you won’t change yourself to be better, then take heed of Allah’s threat:

O you who have believed, whoever of you should revert from his religion – Allāh will bring forth [in place of them] a people He will love and who will love Him [who are] humble toward the believers, strong against the disbelievers; they strive in the cause of Allāh and do not fear the blame of a critic.

Al-Ma’idah: 54

And the factors that will help you change yourself are fearing Allah, trusting Allah, and accepting Allah’s Decree:

And whoever maintains consciousness of Allah (taqwā), He will make for him a way out and will provide for him from sources he could never imagine. And whoever places their trust in Allah, then He is sufficient for them. Indeed, Allah will accomplish His purpose. Allah has already set for all things a decreed measure.

At-Talaq: 2-3

And these three factors will push you to perform good deeds, as your positive mindset will make you seek rewards:

Whoever does righteous deeds, whether male or female, while being a true believer—We will surely grant them a good, pure life (hayātan tayyibah), and We will surely reward them according to the best of what they used to do.

An-Nahl: 97

And this positive mindset will ensure that your mind is preoccupied with seeking Allah’s mercy and forgiveness:

Say, [O Muhammad]: “O My servants who have transgressed against their own souls! Do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Truly, He is the All-Forgiving, the Most Merciful.”

Az-Zumar: 53

And abandoning wishful thinking and imaginative scenarios helps you understand Allah’s plan; that there is salvation awaiting you:

So, indeed, with hardship comes ease. Indeed, with hardship comes ease.

Ash-Sharh: 5-6

And never be pessimistic, nor express your hardships to people, for your strength lies in abandoning it and working to resolve it:

So do not weaken, nor grieve, for you will have the upper hand, if you are [truly] believers.

Ali ‘Imran: 139

And you will be able to place trust in Allah by being of firm resolve, not hesitance:

…And when you have resolved upon a course of action, then place your trust in Allah. Indeed, Allah loves those who place their trust in Him.

Ali ‘Imran: 159

So whatever situation you are in, always strive to please Allah, for Allah has promised goodness in this life and the Hereafter in return:

And as for those who strive in Our cause, We will surely guide them to Our paths. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good (al-muhsinīn).

Al-‘Ankabut: 69
